A soldier's perspective on Iraq and Haiti.

Phil talks to Stan Goff about reports of abuse and torture in the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. They discuss the changing nature of the war in Iraq, America's position on the world stage, the upcoming American elections and the use of 'military contractors'. Stan also gives us a soldier's perspective on the current situation in Iraq and the challenges facing American soldiers.

Phil and Stan Goff then move on to the subject of Haiti. Stan, who has participated in one US invasion of Haiti and has written about his experiences, offers us an overview of the social and political history of the country and discusses the removal of Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide by the United States.

Stan Goff, a retired as a Master Sergeant from the US Army, is the author of "Full Spectrum Disorder: The Military in the New American Century" and "Hideous Dream: A Soldier's Memoir of the U.S. Invasion of Haiti". He is a regular contributor to Counterpunch Magazine and the military affairs editor for From the Wilderness
